Videoconference for evaluating and discussing the possible classification of NGT1 plants of vine

On 15 December following a decision of the Steering Committee and the General Assembly a videoconference was organized for evaluating and discussing the possible classification of NGT1 plants of vine.

The meeting was focused on two kinds of aspects of the matter: the scientific and the juridical administrative ones. Prof. Mario Pezzotti (University of Verona), Prof. Morgante (University of Udine) and Prof. Thierry Lacombe(Supagro Montpellier) attended the meeting giving their scientific and juridical/administrative support.

The most feasible option seems the provision of the definition of “technical clone” within the Council Regulation (EC) No 2100/94 of 27 July 1994 on Community plant variety rights, that ensures the protection of the plants and their fast marketing.

Other possible solutions could be: to register NGT1 plants as new varieties or as clones. The decision is now in the hands of the legislator that’s say CPVO.
